Amanita EffectsAs with all other entheogens, everyone reacts individually to eating Amanita muscaria. Amanitas may be more variable based on the way one's body metabolizes ibotenic acid into muscimol. Preparing Amanita muscaria and the Amanita dosage one uses also play key roles in getting good Amanita effects.
Eating Amanita muscaria will probably result in some of the following Amanita effects:
Many people eating Amanita muscaria report a dreamy-state and a marked analgesia (pain relief) and slight muscle twitching with loss of equilibrium and euphoria with a feeling of peace and well being, Amanita can also be a sedative but with energy burst and excitation.
Generally people report three stages of Amanita effects which are but not limited too, nausea which is felt early on after eating Amanitas and subsides shortly soon after, then a dreamy state is felt and the last, active psychedelic effects predominate.
Amanita effects- dream state, (during the sedative effects) can be highly detailed, colorful, and have a great sense of clarity and lucidity. Some people describe these as being similar to lucid dreaming. Some describe them as out of body experiences. As with normal dreams, the Amanita dream state can consist of a wide variety of experiences.
Amanita effects- Psychedelic often include dramatic shifts in body perceptions and motor skills, including perceived changes in sizes of body parts and increased strengths. Some people report increased sexual feelings, others report very un-sexual emotional and sensual distance / coldness. Vivid visual and auditory distortions, a wavy and alive quality to inanimate objects, and a feeling of great mental clarity will be perceived.
Some people experience moderate to extreme physical distress, usually focused on the stomach which includes nausea, overwhelming for some, mild for others, increases with Amanita doses. Slightly blurred vision, watery eyes, increased salivation, runny nose.
It should be noted that there is a significant difference in Amanita quality, Amanita potency, and effects between Amanita mushrooms found in different seasons and different areas, as well as different varieties of Amanitas (ie different ratio of nausea/body effects to mental/entheogenic effects).
Amanita Active Constituents:
The entheogenic constituents of A. muscaria are ibotenic acid (alpha-amino3-hydroxy-5-isoxazole acetic acid), muscamol (3hydroxy-5-aminomethy1 isoxazole), and possibly muscazone(Ott). Muscamol appears to be the primary intoxicant responsible for Amanita effects. After ingestion, a small amount of ibotenic acid decarboxylates into muscamol, which produces the Amanita intoxication.
Taken orally, ibotenic acid is entheogenically active at 50-100 mg (Ott and Stafford). Taken orally, muscimol displays activity at 10-15mg.
Fresh un-dried Amanita mushrooms can be ingested but should only be done so by experienced shamans who have an understanding of Amanita effects on the body and mind. To dry Amanita mushrooms, place them in the sun for a couple hours or until completely dried. Dried Amanita can be smoked, crumpled into a drink or simply eaten as they are. |
